How to Differentiate Instruction with Quaver’s Resource Manager

Customization is crucial to sound instruction in the general music classroom.

No two classes are alike, and music teachers – who often see every student in the school – must lead lessons that are flexible to a diverse student population.  Technology can also equip teachers to mold their curriculum resources to suit their teaching style and pedagogical approach. With simple drag-and-drop functionality and options to import outside resources, Quaver’s Resource Manager makes it easy for teachers to search for and customize their Quaver Curriculum resources to meet their needs. Read on to learn more about recent upgrades to Resource Manager functionality.

Each Tuesday we bring you a Tip of the Week to make using your Quaver resources easier than ever. Today’s Tip is a part of our series unpacking Spring Updates to Quaver Curriculum resources.  

New Feature #3: Easier Customization with Resource Manager

While our recent upgrades to Resource Manager focused on improved search functionality, the customization piece of the puzzle also got a facelift. Teachers can easily drag resources from their search results into custom folders or lessons and can even create their own custom lessons from scratch. Let’s check it out!

How to access Resource Manager:

  1. Log in to
  2. Click the Teacher Tab to navigate to the Teaching Resources
  3. Click the Resource Manager icon, located at the top of the Teacher Dashboard

How to Customize using Quaver’s Resource Manager:

For starters, the MENU button is your new secret weapon and will be your go-to throughout the customization process.

1) Create a Custom Folder

First you need to create a folder by clicking the MENU button located in the top right-hand corner. Select NEW FOLDER from the drop-down menu and then give the folder a new name in the pop-up window. We’ll use “3rd & 4th Grade Choir.”

2) Add a Lesson

Once your folder is created, you can easily add lessons to it!

  1. Select the folder you wish to use by clicking once on the yellow folder icon.
  2. Click the Quaver Curriculum icon to open a list of all lessons and drag-and-drop your favorite Quaver lessons into the folder.
  3. To create your very own lesson from scratch: go back to the MENU button and select NEW LESSON from the drop-down menu.
  4. Give your lesson a name, like “Choir – Week 1,” and hit OK.

Boom-Chicka-Boom! You’ll find your new lesson waiting for you in your custom folder.

3) Add Screens to your Lesson

Now that you’ve created a lesson, you can easily add a few screens to your custom lesson! Click on the lesson you want to customize. A Preview Window will appear at the bottom of the screen. Select EDIT and now ready you’re ready to drag-and-drop your favorite resources into your lesson.

Let’s search for some warm-ups for the first day of choir.

  1. In the middle panel of Resource Manager, select the Quaver Choral Resources icon.
  2. Using the Type Filter, narrow the search down to “Mobile-Enabled” screens.
  3. Then drag-and-drop a few Icebreakers into your custom lesson.

In addition to these Icebreakers from Quaver, you may want to add a few lesson screens of your own design!

Creating Lesson Screens

To add a new custom screen to your lesson, click the handy MENU button and select NEW SCREEN from the drop-down menu. You’ll notice that the options in the drop-down menu have changed to better aid you in this step of the customization process. When editing a lesson, the MENU button provides options to rename the lesson, view the Lesson Plan, edit Lesson Plan headers, share the lesson, and create a new screen.

Teacher Tip: When you select SHARE LESSON, the lesson icon will change to orange – indicating that is has been shared with other teachers within your district. You can find all of your shared lessons by clicking the Custom Content icon in the Resource Manager. If you ever want to unshare the lesson, simply go back to the MENU button and unselect the share lesson option.  

Once you’ve selected NEW SCREEN, you can add resources you already own, such as YouTube clips, audio files, hyperlinks, and more! Give your new screen a title, paste/attach the file, and edit the notes. When you’re ready to add it to your lesson, click SAVE. Your new screen can now be found in your custom lesson.

If you want to delete any of the folders, lessons, or screens you created, simply select the item and drag it to the trash can that appears in the left-hand corner.
