Tip of the Week: Learning Rounds with “I Love the Mountains”

Today’s Tip is for users with access to Quaver’s Curriculum and ClassPlay!

Are you looking for songs to help teach rounds?

“I Love the Mountains” is a great song for introducing your students to rounds! Located in the Song Hub is an activity that helps students learn and create instrument parts for a new round, “I Hear the Thunder.”

How to access “I Love the Mountains:”

  1. Log in to QuaverMusic.com
  2. Click the Teacher Tab to navigate to the Teaching Resources
  3. Click the ClassPlay icon, located on the Teacher Dashboard
  4. Use the ClassPlay search bar to find “I Love the Mountains”
  5. Choose ROUND from the Song Hub

Singing Rounds with “I Hear the Thunder:”

1) Listen to the Melody

Use the MELODY ONLY audio button, located at the bottom of the screen, to introduce students to the “I Hear Thunder” melody.

2) Assign Parts

Once the students know the melody of “I Hear Thunder,” split your classroom into different groups. Use the COMPLETE ROUND audio button to have them practice singing their part in rounds.

3) Play the Backing Track

After you’ve practiced each groups part, press the BACKING TRACK to start performing your “I Hear the Thunder” rounds. Try rotating groups so each students gets a chance to come in at different times.

4) Create Instrument Parts

If you’re looking for an extra challenge, have some of the students sing, while the others play instruments. Select classroom instruments that sound like thunder and rain. Have the students decide where to play those instruments by using the highlighters. For example, you can use the pink highlighter to designate when the triangle plays, the green for the drum to represent the “pitter-patter raindrops,” and blue for cymbals.
