Each Tuesday, we bring you a Tip of the Week to make using your Quaver resources easier than ever!
Today’s Tip is for users with access to any Quaver teaching license: Curriculum, ClassPlay, or Essentials!
What is a QDo?
A QDo is 4 to 8 measure challenge created to help teach students to compose music within simple parameters. Each QDo can be completed independently in 15-30 minutes, and helps students master the functionality of each of our Quaver Creatives – QBackbeat, QComposer, QStrum, and QGrooves.
Each QDo includes both audio and typed instructions and has 3 steps: Listen, Copy, and Create. The best part is students can tackle a QDo anytime – in class, in the computer lab, or at home.
How to access a QDo:
1) Select a Quaver Creative
After your students have logged in to their QuaverMusic.com accounts, they can choose a Creative from their Student Dashboard, which is accessible from the golden STUDENT tab, or by clicking the APPS tab.
2) Open a QDo
At the bottom of the Creative screen, click the FILE tab and choose OPEN.
3) Choose a QDo
From the Open menu, head over to the QDO tab to select a challenge and click OPEN to launch it. If they want to return to a QDo they’ve already started, then they simply choose the MY QDOS tab to find their started projects for that Creative.
4) Step 1 – Listen
In Step 1, Gwenda prompts the student to listen to the QDo backing track by pressing play.
5) Step 2 – Copy
Once the student has listened to the backing track, they can move on to Step 2. This step instructs them to copy our suggested notes, loops, or strums into the Creative to fit with the backing.
6) Step 3 – Create
Now it’s the student’s chance to replace loops or notes with their own choices and start composing – which is the whole purpose of the QDo!
7) Listen to Gwenda’s Tips
The TIPS section provides helpful advice for creating a masterpiece, such as listening to your piece each time a note is moved and more!
Teacher Tip: QDos make great assignments that can be completed together as a class OR go to Teacher Administration on your Teacher Dashboard and create an assignment for students to try it themselves!
