Each Tuesday, we bring you a Tip of the Week to make using your Quaver resources easier than ever!

Today’s Tip is for users with access to Quaver Music’s Curriculum!

Looking for ways to assess your students online?

Sometimes there’s just not enough time in your music lesson to administer a classwide quiz. We’ve built some powerful tools that allow you to assign assessments to your students’ QuaverMusic.com accounts so they can be completed online anywhere with an internet connection. This opens up the possibility of online assessments via a center in your classroom, the computer lab, a class set of ChromeBooks, or even at home!

Today, we’ll walk through how you, the teacher, can create and assign a quiz, and then look at how a student will access and complete the assessment. Let’s create a melody assessment for our Quaver class!

How to Assign an Assessment (Teacher’s View):

1) Access your Teacher-Only Resources

Once you’ve logged in to your QuaverMusic.com teacher account, you can select either the TEACHER tab, located at the bottom of the screen, or the yellow TEACHER ACCESS Bus Stop sign, located on the lower left side.

2) Head to Teacher Admin

You will be directed to the Teacher Dashboard, a hub for all your teacher-only resources. Go to the top of the bulletin board and click the TEACHER ADMIN icon.

3) Create the Assessment

Before you can assign an assessment, you must create one! Choose the red CREATE ASSIGNMENTS button from the Teacher Admin Main Menu to fill in the assignment details.

4) Fill in the Assessment Information

Once you’ve given your assessment a name, select ASSESSMENT from the first Activity drop-down menu. You will then use the next two drop-downs to select the Grade and Module Assessment, such as instruments, beat, duration, tempo, etc. For this example, we’ll use melody. You can also add instructions which your students will see when they receive the assessment in their account. Once all the required information is filled in, click SAVE.

5) Assign Assessment

Use the arrow in the top right corner of the screen to return to the Teacher Admin Main Menu and select GIVE ASSIGNMENTS, located right next to the Create Assignment button. At the top of the screen, use the drop-down menu to select the class you want to assign the quiz to, the assessment (Melody Assessment), and then click the green GIVE button.

3) Take Quiz

In the Assignments section, students will see four tabs: All, Incomplete, Submitted, and Completed & Graded. As you can see below, the “Melody Assessment” is under the INCOMPLETE tab. On the right-side of the screen, assessment information can be found including the instructions entered by you, the teacher, and the dates the assessment was assigned, due, and submitted (if applicable). If the assessment has already been completed and you’ve opted to reveal the grade, students will also see their Grade here! Let’s click TAKE QUIZ to test our knowledge on melody!
