Quaver put together the following advice for a Texas teacher planning to use Quaver in her Pre-K through 2nd grade classes.

Blueprint for Teaching Pre-K through 2nd Grade Music

In one school year I would focus on just the first 6 episodes:

  1. Beat
  2. Meter
  3. Tempo
  4. Rhythm
  5. Duration
  6. Pitch

By splitting the episodes into the 5 key scenes highlighted in each Teachers Guide, you’ll have 30 short clips to share with your young students.

Try these Interactive White Board Activities, located in the given episode’s Online Quaver Classroom:

  • Level 1 Train the Brain: In all Music Theory classrooms
  • Level 1 QLibs: In all Music Theory classrooms
  • Furcussion: Rhythm classroom
  • Rhythm Selectah: Rhythm classroom
  • Tempo Bounce: Tempo classroom
  • Tempo Treadmill: Tempo classroom
  • Sing Shout Talk Whisper: Vocals classroom
  • I Can Beat Out a Rhythm: Rhythm classroom
  • Sing Shout Talk Whisper: Vocals classroom
  • Tic Qac Toe: Rhythm classroom
  • Numbering Staff Champion
    • Great for looking at the position of the note not the note itself & a good precursor to note placement.
  • Bell Pitch Game: Pitch classroom
  • Level 1 Make a Form, Play a Form: Form classroom
    • Try simple ostinatos with voices, clapping, or instruments.

That’s 44 boards so far . . . and we’re always building more!

Bonus Project: Build Membranophones using the great step-by-step instructions in Quaver’s World Music!

That’s enough to get you started!
What would you add to the Blueprint for Pre-K through 2nd grade classes?
