Congratulations are in order to Ross Elementary Music Teacher Crista Sereni!

Crista was just featured in “The Leading Edge” video series showcasing 21st century learning communities in the Clear Creek Independent School District.

“The Leading Edge” video team visited Crista’s Houston classroom in April as the Superintendent of the CCISD district, Dr. Greg Smith, experienced firsthand Crista’s engaging teaching style and use of Quaver’s School Program in her lessons. Her class of 5th graders enjoyed learning about the fundamentals of musical Form and explored the topic through QuaverMusic.com technology and musical instruments.

Like most 21st Century teachers, Crista utilized a variety of teaching resources in her Form lesson:

  • Quaver’s DVD episode on Form (available for Free preview at QuaverMusic.com/Preview)
  • QuaverMusic.com creatives, mini games and Interactive Whiteboard activities
  • Classroom pianos and ukuleles

By the end of the class, students understood the different A, B, and C sections of a piece of music as well as more complex forms such as Rondo and Theme & Variations.

Crista won a grant from her district this year to bring Quaver’s School Program to her classroom, and has been using it with great results ever since. We are honored to be her “go-to” resource for taking her lessons to the next level.

We want to acknowledge teachers like Crista who think outside the box to bring the love and understanding of this art form to their students on a daily basis!

Great job Crista!

A bit about the experience in her own words:

I was very excited and a bit nervous to be chosen by my principal to represent our school in the district’s Leading Edge Video! I was excited because I won a grant for Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music through the Clear Creek Education Foundation and this opportunity would showcase Quaver to every employee on our district website, but a bit nervous because the Superintendent of Schools would be observing and interacting with my students.

Everyone in the room from the 5th grade students to the film crew enjoyed the video and the lesson. All students were engaged and successful. The lesson on Form included math manipulatives, folk songs, and state of the art IWB activities.

Watching our Superintendent play the games from Quaver’s QArcade on the SMART Board was a total blast.

Over all, it was an exhilarating experience and I’d do it again, as long as Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music was right there with me!
